Internship program
During the 8 th Steering Group Meeting, in Bucharest, Romania, the idea of developing a framework for the internship within the Initiative was approved. The opportunity to apply for this program became available for representatives from all member countries. Previous interns from Albania, Moldova, Kosovo and Croatia were financially supported during 3 months period of their stay within the Secretariat. Therefore, selection procedure for the next internship will be in connection with available financial sources. As the future step in further improvement of the Internship program, RAI Secretariat will work more on developing the idea of e-Internship.
Terms of Reference for Internship program Location: RAI Secretariat, Sarajevo, BiH
Under the guidance and overall coordination of the Head of the Office and under direct supervision of the Anti-corruption Expert, the intern should work within the Secretariat on implementing the programmatic objectives: • Supporting the process of adoption and implementation of the UN Convention against corruption by the member countries; • Supporting the process of developing and implementing regional and national anti-corruption programs for raising public awareness; • Sharing best practices in fighting high – level corruption in SEE countries; • Assessing the regional anti-corruption needs and specific requirements; • Promoting the public – private partnership in reducing the impact of corruption within the business environment.
Tasks and Responsibilities:

To provide substantive input and active involvement to the running projects;

To develop and update the Regional Anti-corruption Initiative Secretariat’s Online Resource Centre (Event-related information updates on the website);

To support the Executive Assistant in order to ensure the efficient preparation of Regional Anti-corruption Initiative’s meetings and events and assume general administrational tasks;

To perform other related tasks as directed by the Anti-corruption Expert;

Additionally, the intern will be asked to handle other tasks as directed by the Head of the Office.
The intern will be asked to finalize by the end of the three months period a thematic study. The Head of the Office and the Anti-corruption Expert will introduce the intern to the work in an international public organization and to the functioning of EU and international institutions related to RAI. The Head of the Office and the Anti-corruption Expert will provide guidance and know-how to the intern, assess the intern’s achievements and provide the intern with an evaluation report and work certificate at the end of the above-mentioned period.
Each internship period is of three months with the possibility to be renewed upon results achieved.
Profile:

University Degree in related field (law or political science);

Up to 3 years of working experience

Good knowledge in anti-corruption policy and strategic studies, as well as in the justice and home affaires environment of the EU and SEE;

Strong organizational skills and self-motivation;

Well-developed skills in research, analysis, and writing;
-
Working knowledge of English, any other lingua franca in SEE could be an asset;

Working proficiency in word-processing and IT basics;
-
Ability to work co-operatively with people of different ethnic and national backgrounds;

Experience and ability to work in a demanding environment and within limited time frames.

Former interns
In period from 2005 to 2007 RAI Secretariat (former SPAI RSLO) had 4 interns from the member countries, with their substantial inputs to the current activities carried out by the Secretariat.
Ivana NIKOLIC, candidate nominated by the SPAI Senior Representative and Stability Pact National Coordinator of the Republic of Croatia, worked with SPAI-RSLO in the Internship period May – July, 2007. During her Internship, Ms. Nikolic provided assistance in the organizational and programmatic activities for the Strategic Planning Meeting in Sarajevo, and participated in the Summer School for Junior Magistrates in Sovata, Romania. Ms. Nikolic has contributed to the SPAI-RSLO by assisting in the website redesign, building and maintaining UN Convention against Corruption Implementation matrix, updating resource center with relevant anti-corruption legislation and national strategies and other tasks as directed by the Anti-corruption Expert.
Asdren GASHI, Chief of Division of Drafting the Internal Security Policies, at the Ministry of Internal Affairs UNMIK Kosovo and graduate student at Kosovo Institute for Journalism and Communication, was the third intern to join the SPAI RSLO for the period February – April, 2007. During his 3 months internship period Mr. Gashi prepared Final report on UNMIK Kosovo anti-corruption fight, with concrete data about law enforcement bodies and legislative framework in anti-corruption area. Mr. Gashi was participating and was directly involved in organizing “Regional Conference on Sharing best Practices And Lessons Learned in Preventing Corruption” organized in the Republic of Albania, in Tirana, March 3-4, 2007.
In the internship period September - December, 2006 Chief inspector of the Moldovan Center for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption, Adrian GHERMAN, provided a substantial input to the SPAI RSLO team in terms of updating the relevant anti-corruption information for the Anti-corruption Resource Center, and research activities on relevant anti-corruption initiatives within Baltic Countries. Mr. Gherman was directly involved in organizing the joint event for investigators and prosecutors from the Republic of Moldova – “Training on Detecting, Investigating and Prosecuting High Level Corruption” and he also participated in ‘’The Anti-corruption and UNCAC Conference’’ organized by SPAI RSLO and Transparency International of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Sarajevo, December 8, 2006.
As the first intern within the RSLO internship program a young graduate from Albania, Jonida GABA, assisted in all programmatic and organization activities at the SPAI RSLO in the period of 6 months (September 2004 – February 2005). Mrs. Gaba has chosen to attend an internship training period in this regional environment after the completion of her Law studies at the University of Bologna in Italy and obtaining of a Master's Degree in Criminology and International Criminal Policy in Turin. In addition to the ongoing office activities she also participated in the organizational activities for the 8th Steering Group Meeting and UNCAC Regional Conference in 2004. |
