MOLDOVA: 250 EURO FOR NOT PAYING CUSTOMS DUTIES

CCECC officers arrested red-handed a young man being suspected of influence peddling, yesterday, 4th of January 2012 at about 15.45. The arrest occurred in front of a shopping center located on Dacia Blvd. from Chisinau.

According to the denouncer, the suspect extorted Euro 250 from a citizen and would have claimed to have influence on the customs officers of Customs Service and Border Guard Service to facilitate the introduction of auto parts from Ukraine into the country, without paying customs duties.

At the time of arrest, banknotes marked "bribe CCECC" Center employees were handed over voluntarily.

Thus, a criminal case was started under par. (2), Art. 326 Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova - "influence peddling", which is punishable by a fine of 1000 to 3000 conventional units or by imprisonment of 2-6 years.
