MOLDOVA: TWO POLICE OFFICERS INVESTIGATED FOR PASSIVE CORRUPTION

Two policemen of the Police Commissariat of Ceadîr-Lunga district were arrested by CCECC General Territorial Department "South" being suspected of passive corruption. They would have extorted $ 1,000 from an U.S. citizen.

Following the actions taken on December 22nd by Anti-corruption Centre one of the policemen was arrested in front of the police station after receiving the amount of $ 1,000 from an U.S. citizen in order American citizen not to become liable for theft.

After the body search, the U.S. $ 1000 marked "bribe CCECC" has been found to operative inspector.

Currently, both suspects are in detention and being investigated for passive corruption under art.324 para.2 let. b), c) Criminal Code of Republic of Moldova. If they are found guilty they risk imprisonment from 5 to 10 years with a fine from 1000-3000 conventional units and deprivation of the right to occupy a certain position for a period of 2-5 years.
