Regional Seminar on 'Detection and Repression of Illicit Enrichment' - October 19-20, 2009 - Sofia, Bulgaria

Regional Seminar on ''Detection and Repression of Illicit Enrichment'' took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, on October 19-20, 2009, in the premises of National Institute of Justice. The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France under the patronage of the French Ambassador in Bulgaria – Mr. Etienne de Poncins. Based on multidisciplinary approach, the workshop focused on comparative analysis in the area of illicit enrichment in France, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania and Serbia.

It aimed at gathering experts from the fiscal administration, justice and police authorities, specialized in fighting against different types of illicit enrichment, providing them with the possibility to discuss and improve collaboration between themselves. On behalf of Regional Anti-corruption Initiative the participants were addressed by Mr. Stanislav Aleksandrov - Anti-Corruption Expert in RAI Secretariat, who pointed out the importance of forfeiture and seizure of assets acquired from criminal activity, as one of the main tools to curb corruption.
