Summer School for Junior Magistrates from South Eastern Europe, June 9-15, 2008 - Kotor, Montenegro

RAI Secretariat, in cooperation with the hosting Montenegrin Directorate for Anti-corruption Initiative, co-organized the annual Summer School for Junior Magistrates from SEE on June 9 - 15, in Kotor, Montenegro. The event was organized for a third consecutive time and was dedicated to the "International Standards and Cooperation in the Fight against Corruption".

Conference on “Implementation of the Council of Europe Civil Law Convention on Corruption”, April 21-22, 2008 - Podgorica, Montenegro

Mr. Edmond Dunga - Head of the Office and Mr. Stanislav Aleksandrov - Anti-corruption Expert took part in the Conference on the "Implementation of the Council of Europe Civil Law Convention on Corruption" that took place on April 21-22, 2008, in Podgorica, Montenegro. The event was organized by the Montenegrin Directorate for Anti-corruption Initiative and Council of Europe. It was envisaged as a national promotion of the Civil Law Convention on Corruption in the Montenegrin society focusing on the mechanisms, applied by this only international instrument aiming at utilizing civil law remedies in the overall strategy to suppress corruption, such as requiring compensation to victims who suffered damage as a result of corruption, providing for the State's civil liability and responsibility for negligent omissions of supervisory bodies that resulted in corrupt acts of public officials, for the nullity of contracts and clauses providing for corruption, for the protection of employees - whistleblowers, etc.

11th SPAI Steering Group Meeting, October 9-10, 2007 - Podgorica, Montenegro

At this important meeting that marked a big step towards increased regional ownership and leadership, it was decided among others to:

- Rename SPAI as Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative (RAI) in the accordance of the transformation from Stability Pact to Regional Co-operation Council;
- Elect a new Chairperson from the region;
- Approve appointment of the new Head of the Secretariat and the new Anti-Corruption Expert;
- Adopt the new Strategic Document of the Initiative (as well as terms of reference for the Chairman and the Secretariat);
- Adopt the Work Plan for 2008-2009;
- Take concrete measures aiming to implement the MoU that ensures financial sustainability of the Secretariat.

Anticorruption Assessment Mission of UNDP and UNODC to Montenegro - September 26, 2006 - Podgorica

SPAI RSLO's Executive Secretary attended the assessment meeting organized by  UNDP and UNODC. The mission had three objectives: (1) To examine and assess Montenegro's existing anti-corruption framework; (2) To assess how the current framework is compliant with UNCAC and the gaps that exist; (3) To identify the necessary technical assistance necessary to strengthen Montenegro's anti-corruption framework and its consistency with UNCAC. RSLO's Executive Secretary expressed the availability of SPAI RSLO to support future UN activities in Montengro and other SPAI member countries.
