Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative - Moldova

Working Table III Coordinator expert of Justice and Home Affaires issues represented SPAI RSLO within the National Anticorruption Conference organized by the Moldova in cooperation with the Council of Europe in Chisinau, December 9th, 2006. With this occasion the Stability Pact representative presented for discussion the Draft report prepared by SPAI RSLO after the twinning type exercise for anticorruption prosecutors and investigators from Moldova, Romania and Lithuania, organized in Chisinau, between November 8 and 10, 2006.

SPAI RSLO in cooperation with the Moldavian Center for Combatic Economic Crimes and Corruption organized, in Moldova, Chisinau, between November 8 and 10, 2006, a twinning type exercise for anticorruption prosecutors and investigators from Moldova, Romania and Lithuania. In addition to the participating magistrates and investigators, SPAI partner countries (Romania, Lithuania and USA) and organizations (ABA CEELI, Council of Europe, OSCE, TI) were represented. This wide participation contributed to the overall coordination of the anticorruption efforts in Moldova building upon the ongoing efforts to avoid duplication and overlapping of projects and activities.

During February and March 2005, SPAI RSLO team conducted a regional tour which involved all SPAI member countries. On February 21 - 22, SPAI RSLO's representatives, Mr. Veselin Sukovic, Executive Secretary and Mr. Cornel - Virgiliu Calinescu, Anticorruption Expert visited the capital of Moldova, Chisinau. During the two days visit SPAI RSLO's representatives had bilateral meetings and roundtable discussions with the representatives of public authorities, NGOs, international organizations, civil society and mass media. 

Experts from ABA-CEELI and the Stability Pact Anti-Corruption Initiative Regional Secretariat Liaison Office (SPAI RSLO) reviewed the Republic of Moldova's 2004 Project of the National Strategy for Corruption Prevention and Fighting ("National Strategy") and the Action Plan for accomplishing the National Strategy for corruption prevention and fighting corruption ("Action Plan"). The analysis evaluated the degree to which the proposed National Strategy and Action Plan complies with Council of Europe (CoE) and other international standards.
