Another opportunity for assessing status of national anticorruption strategies adopted by the SEE countries was offered by the SEE Counter Corruption Regional Conference, identifying the best practices and lessons learned in following key areas: role of law enforcement agencies and the judiciary, impact of corruption prevention measures, raising awareness, promoting transparency, and building the partnership with the civil society. The event was organized in full cooperation with the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies. More regional involvement of SPAI countries in the fight against corruption was demonstrated by their agreement to sign the Memorandum of Understanding Concerning Cooperation in Fighting Corruption Through the South Eastern European Anti-Corruption Initiative at SEECP meeting on April 13, 2007 in Zagreb, the Republic of Croatia, according to which the countries commit to provide financial sustainability of the Stability Pact Anticorruption Initiative Regional Secretariat Liaison Office. Under the coordination of the SPAI Chairman and with the support of the WT III coordinator expert, SPAI RSLO is organizing in Brussels, on January 23rd, the Friends of the SPAI Chair meeting.
